East Main Church of Christ

The Trinity

We believe there is only one God who exists as three persons: God, the Father, Jesus Christ, his son, and the Holy Spirit.  (Genesis. 1:26; Matthew. 3:16-17, 28:19)

    God the Father

God the Father is the all-powerful designer and caretaker of all creation.  He is pure and holy, abounding in love and full of mercy.  (He created mankind to have a special relationship with Him.) (Genesis 1; Exodus. 34:6; Leviticus. 11:44-45, 22:32))

    Jesus Christ

Jesus is the Son of God, was with God from the beginning, and all the fullness of God dwells in him.  All things were made through him and for him. Jesus’ death on the cross, his burial and resurrection were God’s plan, providing everyone the opportunity to have forgiveness of sins and eternal life in his name. (John 1:1-4, 3:16-17; Philippians. 2:5-11)

    Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is a part of God that lives in Christians and guides and motivates them in Godly living.  This gift from God acts as a teacher, counselor, and intercessor, empowering Christians for service and witness. (John 15:26-27; Acts 1:8; Galatians. 5:16-17)

All human beings are created in the image of God, and our purpose is to bring Him glory.  God created mankind to have a special relationship with Him. (Genesis. 1:26-28)

The Bible

The Bible is God’s word, written by men through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and is complete and without fault.  The Bible is filled with the wisdom of God and contains time-tested, consistent standards for morality, ethics and relationships.  With the Holy Spirit, the Bible transforms the believer’s life from one that is centered on self to one that demonstrates love for God and love for other people. (2 Timothy. 3:16; Hebrews. 4:12; 2 Peter 1:20-21)

God so desires to be in relationship with us, but our disobedience to his will separates us from him.    (“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23.)  Salvation is made possible through Jesus’ sacrifice and is God’s plan to rescue us from the eternal consequences of our disobedience.  The restoration of our relationship with God is made possible only through Jesus’ sacrifice. (John 3:16-17; Romans. 3:23, 6:3-5, 8:14-17; 2 Pet. 3:8-9)

The Church

The Church is composed of followers of Jesus.  Its purpose is to glorify God by being the “hands and feet of Jesus” -- carrying-on his mission and ministry in the world until he returns.  Every member has a role to play in this ministry, including supporting other believers and reaching out to the rest of the world. (Matthew. 16:18, 28:19-20; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians. 12:12)
